Brothers (Thailand)

It’s not usual to see human and animals living together and sharing the same places equally, but in the small town of Lop Buri, central Thailand, this is exactly what’s happening, in the streets around ancient ruins and a vacant old building where they occupied and made their home (the one in the photos below with many windows and red horizontal bars). Like all the brothers, not always with a peaceful relationship, some monkeys steal from shops and the owners try to keep them away (sometimes shooting to the air with toy pistols to make noise to scare them, but maybe that’s just an excuse people make to behave like cowboys in real life), some monkeys are dirty and make a mess on the street (garbage men aren’t as well their best friends, nor the homeless looking for rests of food in trash containers), some monkeys are mean and may attack people. But hey, there’s bad people everywhere.

Meanwhile, most of them just lay around scratching themselves or having a drink, pose to pictures like a lazy celebraty, chat with friends or play with any urban toys they may find. Who said that a city was not a playground?
